The Abdullahi Mohammed Public Library (AMPL) is a family oriented public institution that provides services to every category of user. It serves as the Departmental Library for the Library and Information Science Department as well as a laboratory for practical for its students. It is located near the North Gate of the ABU Main Campus. It was opened on 5th May, 1963. It is financed and administered by Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria through the Department of Library and Information science.
The objective of setting up of the library is to cater for the Ahmadu Bello University community, the general public in Samaru and the surrounding villages. It is also to serve as a training ground for the students of the Library and Information Science Department of the University. It is opened to all staff members of the university.
The Library is divided into four sections: the Adult Section, the Children Section, the Practical Section and the E-Library. Most of our customers are staff of A.B.U, A.B.U Demonstration students and students from neighbouring Secondary Schools including adults and young people from Samaru/Zaria vicinity. The collection of the library is similar in every respect to that of a typical Public Library Collection. The adult section of the library has four (4) divisions which consist of circulation, reserve, serial and reference division while the children section is stocked with books and other information resources for children within the age of 3 – 13 years, and the E- library provides online information resources and database for all category of users.
